Anytime I decide to take an intentional shopping break I am struck with a crushing case of “the wants”. Suddenly, the entire J.Crew website is calling my name (and on sale, UGH), a TikTok of the perfect spring vacation bag hits my FYP, and every IRL trench coat inspires me. A million new restaurants with the perfect photo aesthetic opened in the city, my list of must-visit boutique hotels tripled, and I NEED SOMETHING TO WEAR TO ALL OF IT.
THE WANTS! While the itch to purchase every new arrival can be exhausting, I welcome the feeling of inspiration. Finally! As much as I love shopping for coats, I never feel truly excited to get dressed when it’s cold out. I want to wear patterned dresses and soft white cotton blouses with a cashmere sweater slung over my shoulders. I want to let my hair air dry and swap my foundation for a moisturizer-and-bronzing-drop hybrid.
The spring and summer weather that I am craving is starting to appear, and clicking purchase on my idealistic shopping cart makes me think the season will magically arrive sooner.
I admit, I already caved and purchased a few things from my spring wishlist (like this Zara dress and J.Crew pants). However, I made myself add the rest of anything I was even remotely considering to my ShopMy without purchasing it.
For the purpose of this substack, I also took it a step further and created collages of my wishlist items. Wow, was this helpful! This exercise helped me to determine which pieces I was truly excited about and which pieces I basically already own. My shopping wishlist now also serves as my spring style inspiration—I’m excited to reference this when shopping my own closet.
